SIMATIC memory card - overview
Introduction
The CPU uses a SIMATIC memory card as the program memory. The SIMATIC memory
card is a preformatted memory card compatible with the Windows file system. The memory
card is available in different memory sizes and can be used for the following purposes:
Transportable data carrier
Program card
Firmware update card
Service data card
When you transfer the user program to the CPU through an online connection, it is written
into the SIMATIC memory card's load memory, which must be in the CPU's card slot for this
purpose.
You can also write to the SIMATIC memory card in the PG/PC. A commercially available SD
card reader is required to write/read the SIMATIC memory card with the programming
device/PC. This is used, for example, to copy files directly to the SIMATIC memory card
using the Windows Explorer.
The SIMATIC memory card is mandatory to operate the CPU.
