Flush Hydraulic System
IMPORTANT: Flush the hydraulic system any time
thereis a severecomponent failure orthe systemis
contaminated. Contaminated oil appears milky,
black or contains metal particles.
1. Park machine on a levelsurface.Stopengine, apply
parking brake and remove key from ignition switch.
2. Cleanareaaroundfiltermountingarea(Fig.16).Re-
move filter and drain filter into a suitable container. Dis-
card filter.
3. Removedrainplugfromtransaxle(Fig.17)anddrain
transaxle into a suitable container.
4. Drain hydraulic system. Drain all hoses and compo-
nents while the system is warm.
5. Make sure filter mounting surface is clean. Apply
DexronIIIATFtogasketonnewfilter.Screwfilteronun-
til gasket contacts mounting plate, then tighten filter 3/4
turn further.
6. Install all hoses and components.
NOTE: Use only hydraulic fluid specified in Operator’s
Manual. Other fluid could cause system damage.
7. Filltransaxlewithnewhydraulicfluid(seeOperator’s
Manual).
8. Disconnect and ground spark plug wires to prevent
engine from starting.
9. Turn ignition key switch to s tart; engage starter for
ten (10) seconds to prime hydraulic pump. Repeat this
step again.
10.Connect spark plug w ires.
11.Start engine and run at idle speed for a minimum of
two (2) minutes.
12.Increase engine speed to high idle for minimum of
one (1) minute under no load.
13.Turnsteeringwheelin bothdirectionsseveraltimes.
14.Shutoffengineandcheckforoilleaks.Checkoillev-
el in transaxle and add correct oil if necessary.
15.Operate themachinefortwo (2) hours under normal
operating conditions.
16.Checkconditionofhydraulicoil.Ifthefluidshowsany
signsofcontaminationrepeatsteps1through15again.
17.Resumenormaloperationandfollowrecommended
maintenance intervals.
