120 Troublesho oting
chmod 666 /dev/datlink0
Another possibility is that the
DAT-Link
is already in use by another program
such as the NetAudio server,
netaudiod
.
If the
DAT-Link
is not connected properly, or its SCSI address do es not match
the one used on the host computer, the resp onse to the
dltest
command will
be:
dat_open: I/O error
In this case, check the SCSI ID setting on the
DAT-Link
and the device le
created on the computer to make sure they match. Also, make sure no other
devices (disks, tape drives, etc.) are using the same ID.
If the host software is congured to use a SCSI ID which is already in use by
another device,
dltest
will likely respond with:
dat_open: Error receiving message from DAT-Link
However, note that if the DAT-Link is set to the same SCSI ID as a disk drive
or other peripheral connected to the computer, unpredictable b ehavior may
result, including
p ossible damage to disk contents
.
A.2 Device Busy Errors
For most of the NetAudio programs, there must be a server running b efore the
DAT-Link
can b e accessed. This server, describ ed in Chapter 3, keeps a connection
to the
DAT-Link
open at all times and prevents other pro cesses from accessing the
DAT-Link
. However, some programs such as
rctrain
and
dltest
require direct
access to the
DAT-Link
. If you attempt to use one of these while the server is
running, they will attempt to temporarily pause the server. If a non-standard
device le or unit number was used when
netaudiod
was run,
dltest
(or any other
program that connects directly to the
DAT-Link
) may not be able to correctly
identify the correct NetAudio server to pause. If this is the case, kill the server
using the
nakillserver
command and retry
dltest
. The server will need to be
manually resumed after running
dltest
.
A.3 DAT Distribution Tap e Problems
If you encounter diculties trying to install the
DAT-Link
software from a DAT
tape, as describ ed in Section 2.6.1, you should check the following:
