be connected to the
narecord
program without creating an intermediate le. For
example, if
any program
is a program which performs some secondary ltering of
audio data, then data can b e captured and ltered before storing using a command
such as:
narecord -s 8000 -ol | any_program >file
The recording will continue until either
any program
exits or the
narecord
program
is interrupted.
6.11 Channel Status and User Bits
In addition to audio data, the connection between the
DAT-Link
and the digital
audio equipment also carries some additional information known as
channel status
bits
and
user bits
. By default,
narecord
discards this information. This data can
be captured by using the
-c
option, which instructs
narecord
to store the side
information into a le. This le can be examined or edited using any text editor.
It's format is the same as is used by
naplay
and is describ ed in App endix B.4.
The
narecord
also has the ability to capture continuously changing
channel status
and
user bits
byinterleaving them with this data by specifying the
-C
option. See
the manual page for
narecord
in App endix G for details on the format of les
stored using this option.
6.12 Starting and Stopping the DAT Machine
The
narecord
program provides an option that allows the
DAT-Link
to start and
stop the DAT recorder automatically. By running
narecord
with the
-a
option,
the
DAT-Link
will start the DAT machine playing b efore beginning recording onto
a disk le. After recording has completed, the DAT machine will b e stopp ed.
Before this option can be used, it is necessary to set up the
DAT-Link
's remote
control facility as described in Section 8. Also, the
DL RC
environment variable
must be set to the name of the device to be controlled. To start the DAT machine
the
narecord
program issues the following remote commands in sequence:
STOP - PLAY
When playback is nished the program issues a STOP command.
