Following these questions, the software will b e compiled and installed. If the instal-
lation process is interrupted for any reason, the conguration options will be saved
in a le called Conguration. This le can b e manually edited and installation can
be resumed bytyping:
Install
You will then given the choice of answering the conguration questions again or
using the existing conguration.
Once the installation has complete, the
DAT-Link
should be ready for operation.
To use the programs,
INSTALLROOT
/bin
should b e added to your path if is not
already present. If you wish to clean up the ob ject les from the sources directory,
you can run:
MAKE clean
from the sources directory.
2.6.3 Installation from Cartridge or DDS DAT Tape
This section describ es how to install the
DAT-Link
source software from a cartridge
tape or a data DAT tap e (DDS). To extract and build the software requires approx-
imately 8 Mbytes of free space. The software can be installed in the directory of
your choice. The following instructions assume that the sources will be placed in
/usr/lo cal/src/datlink
, but any directory may be substituted. Note that the
user that runs the installation must have write p ermission in this directory and
also in the directories that will b e ultimately used to hold the executable programs,
manual pages, etc. Since these will usually be system directories, you may need to
become sup er-user to install the software.
mkdir /usr/local/src/datlink
cd /usr/local/src/datlink
tar xv .
The last line ab ovemay need to also sp ecify the name of the tap e drive if the default
is not set correctly. For example, on some SUN machines you may need to typ e:
tar xvf /dev/rst8 .
Once the software has been extracted, you can run the installation script bytyping:
Install
You will then b e prompted for various conguration options as describ ed in Section
2.6.2.
