A.4 Problems with Training (rctrain) 121
Is the LOCK LED on the front of the
DAT-Link
on? If not, there is a problem
with the connection b etween the
DAT-Link
and the DAT machine.
Does the SCSI ID set on the
DAT-Link
match that used when setting up the
device les?
Is the SCSI cable prop erly connected between the computer and the
DAT-
Link
? If the
DAT-Link
is the last device on the SCSI bus, then the supplied
terminator must b e connected b etween the cable and the
DAT-Link
connector.
If the
DAT-Link
was already in use before attempting to read a DAT distri-
bution tap e, then it may be necessary to p ower-cycle the
DAT-Link
to reset
it to its default state.
If the
dd
command exits with an error message such as \Unable to open
device", then the computer may not be prop erly congured to access the
DAT-Link
. Recheck the steps in Section 2.4 to be sure that the device le
was prop erly created.
Some DAT machines output some noise on their digital outputs when playis
pressed. This will result in error messages from
/bin/sh
when you attempt
to extract the sources. You can try the following steps to avoid this:
1. First press play and pause on the DAT machine to place it in pause
mode.
2. Start the appropriate
dd
command as indicated in Section 2.6
3. Release pause on the DAT machine.
It is p ossible that some of the data on the tap e may have been corrupted.
This also will likely result in error messages from
/bin/sh
. Additional copies
of the
DAT-Link
software are stored on the tap e at intervals of approximately
30 seconds. To read one of the alternate copies, rst locate it using the
audio output from the DAT or its VU meters. The software sounds like
approximately 10 seconds of noise. Position the tap e just b efore the alternate
copy and rep eat the instructions in Section 2.6, omitting the rewind of the
DAT tap e.
A.4 Problems with Training (rctrain)
If the
rctrain
program does not receive the same remote sequence rep eatedly
while training a function, it will give up and print a \Failed!" message. In this
case, the problem may be that the remote control does not repeatedly generate the
same remote sequence while a button is held down. In this case you should try
repeatedly pressing and releasing the button while running
rctrain
. If you are
still unable to train any functions of a particular handheld remote, contact your
DAT-Link
supplier with the make and model of the device.
