SCSI Adapter:
Adaptec AHA-1540B
Cables Required
The cable required will depend on the type of SCSI adapter installed on your com-
puter. For use with the Adaptec AHA-1540B, you will require a cable with a
50 pin
Centronics typeconnector
on b oth ends. This may also b e called a
SCSI-1
cable.
It should be available from your hardware supplier or can be ordered from your
DAT-Link
supplier.
Installing an ASPI Driver
To use these to ols, you must have a SCSI adapter installed which supports Adaptec's
Advanced SCSI Programming Interface
(
ASPI
). The software has b een tested using
an Adaptec AHA-1540B SCSI Adapter. With this particular adapter, a device
driver must be loaded to provide the
ASPI
interface. This is done by adding the
following line to the
CONFIG.SYS

installed in
C:
n
ADAPTEC
.
DEVICE=C:\ADAPTEC\ASPI4DOS.SYS /D
After adding the ab ove command you will need to reboot your computer for the
driver to b e loaded.
Cho osing a SCSI ID
Before connecting the
DAT-Link
,you need to check which SCSI ID's are already in
use on your system. With the
ASPI4DOS
device driver loaded as describ ed ab ove,
a list of connected devices will be printed on the console during bo ot time. Note
which SCSI ID's are in use and then cho ose an unused for the
DAT-Link
. Any ID's
between 0 and 6 which do not show a connected device can b e used for the
DAT-
Link
. Note that although the
DAT-Link
's ID switch go es up to 9, settings 8 and 9
are reserved for factory testing. ID 7 is usually reserved by the host computer. For
