30 Installation
the following instructions, we will assume that the device ID chosen was 4. If you
choose a dierent ID, make sure you replace \4" with the chosen ID b efore typing
any commands that follow.
Connecting the
DAT-Link
The next step is to connect the
DAT-Link
to the computer. Since it is necessary to
unterminate the SCSI bus temp orarily, it is recommended that you shut-down and
turn o the computer before making the connection.
The
Options
switches on the rear of the
DAT-Link
should b e set with all switches
down and the
SCSI ID
switchmust be set as describ ed above. Then connect the
DAT-Link
to the computer using the SCSI cable. If the
DAT-Link
is the last
device on the SCSI bus, b e sure to connect the provided SCSI terminator between
the cable and the
DAT-Link
's SCSI connector. Failure to do so can cause problems
with reb o oting the computer. Once it is ho oked up and p owered on you can rebo ot
the computer. If you have trouble reb ooting, verify that the SCSI ID selected on
the
DAT-Link
was not one that was already in use.
As the computer starts, if you are using
ASPI4DOS
,you should see a line similar
to:
Target 4 TCT DAT-Link 1638
This above line shows that the system found the
DAT-Link
at SCSI ID 4. If you
have congured the
DAT-Link
with a ID other than 4, you should see the selected
value in the ab ove message.
You can now pro ceed with the software installation in Section 2.6.4 b elow.
Dierences in DOS Implementation
The NetAudio programs describ ed elsewhere is this manual are available under
DOS
as individual executables. The usage of these tools diers slightly from that
described elsewhere in this manual. In particular:
There is no NetAudio server (netaudiod or naserver) under
DOS
. All client
programs communicate directly with the
DAT-Link
. Note that this means
that the
DAT-Link
will always b e in it's default state when a to ol is executed.
This means that programs such as
naset
and
naloaddsp
will not have a
lasting eect and are thus ineective.
The argument to the -u option for each of the NetAudio clients should b e the
SCSI address of the
DAT-Link
, even though the online help states that the
form should be 'host:unit'.
