Chapter 8
Remote Control
The digital audio connections b etween the
DAT-Link
and a DAT machine or other
digital audio device do not provide control over the machine. To allow the user
to control devices, the
DAT-Link
provides a universal remote control system, con-
sisting of an infrared sensor and transmitter. The handheld remote control for any
device can be used to train the
DAT-Link
. The device can then be controlled by
the
DAT-Link
using its remote control transmitter.
Commands to stop, start, rewind, etc. can then be added to programs or scripts
allowing greater automation of many functions. The remote control system is not
limited to control of digital audio devices. Any device that has an infrared remote
can be controlled by a computer using
DAT-Link
. Certain wired remote controls
can also be controlled by the
DAT-Link
.
As distributed, the NetAudio software recognizes a number of devices. The known
machines can b e listed using:
rc -l
If your DAT machine is listed, you can skip the next section and proceed to Section
8.2. Otherwise, the following section describes how to train the
DAT-Link
to control
your device.
8.1 Training the Infrared Controller

,
REWIND
, etc.
The program provided with the
DAT-Link
for training the remote control is called
