2.6.2 Conguring the Installation
Before the software can b e installed, you will have to answer a few questions regard-
ing the conguration of your system. The prompts whichmay b e displayed will be
described in this section. Note that on some systems, not all information will be
requested. For all requests, a default resp onse will be displayed, enclosed in square
brackets. To accept the defaults just press return.
Enter the directory to install the DAT-Link programs [/usr/local]:
At this prompt, enter the directory where you want the
DAT-Link
programs
ultimately installed. Subdirectories of the given directory will be created as
needed and used a follows:
bin
Executable les.
man
Manual pages for programs,libraries, and utilities.
lib
Libraries for user programs.
include
Programmer's library include les.
etc
Auxiliary les used by the
DAT-Link
.
For example, if
/usr/lo cal
is chosen, the executables les will b e installed in
/usr/lo cal/bin
. Users must include the
bin
subdirectory in their path to
use the
DAT-Link
programs, so a well-known directory, suchas
/usr/lo cal
,
should b e chosen. This directory will also be referred to as
INSTALLROOT
in
this manual.
Enter the name of the C compiler to use to build the software [cc]:
The default,
cc
, is usually the correct choice here. However, if you have a
preferred compiler, suchas
gcc
(GNU C compiler), you can enter that now.
Enter the options to use with the C compiler [-O]:
These are the ags to use during compilation. For all but sp ecial cases, the
default should b e ne.
Do you wish to install the COMDISCO support[y]:
Press return if you want to install software that allows the
DAT-Link
to be
used in conjunction with COMDISCO's SPW system. This option will only
appear if you already have COMDISCO's software installed.
Do you wish to install the ENTROPIC support[n]:
Enter 'y' if you want to install software that allows the
DAT-Link
to be
used in conjunction with Entropic Research Laboratory's ESPS and
waves+
software. You will then be prompted for more information regarding the
Entropic installation. If you don't already have Entropic's ESPS installed,
just hit return to omit the Entropic supp ort.
