Installation Steps (DAT-Link):
Older models of the
DAT-Link
require a slightly
dierent set of steps to extract the distribution software from DAT tape:
1. Change directory to the location where you want the
DAT-Link
sources in-
stalled. See section 2.6.1 ab ove for assistance in choosing an appropriate
directory.
2. Connect the
DAT-Link
and congure the computer as described in previous
sections.
3. If the
DAT-Link
was already on, turn its power o and on again.
4. Connect the
DAT-Link
to an audio DAT player.
5. Insert the distribution tap e in the DAT machine and make sure it is rewound
to the b eginning.
6. Type:
dd if=/dev/datlink0 bs=64512 | sh
7. Press
play
on the DAT machine.
Soon after pressing play,you should see the message:
DAT-Link Source Installation
----------------------------
If you instead see a message similar to:
30+1 records in
30+1 records out
or
dd: read: I/O error
then stop the tap e, rewind it, and repeat instructions 4{5 ab ove.
After approximately 30 seconds, you should see the messages:
Finished extracting sources.
Setting up sources...
The source les will be extracted and you will then be prompted for various cong-
uration options as described in the following sections.
If you do not see the above message, or see an error message during the loading
process, refer to Section A.3 in the Appendices to troublesho ot the problem.
