11.3 Hardware
The
DAT-Link
+ can be used with external hardware connected via its
DSP-Port
as described in Section C.1. This includes most hardware that is designed to work
with the NeXT DSP-Port or with the DSP-Port found on Ariel Corp's digital signal
processing b oards. For most external hardware, the user must provide their own
DSP32C programs that are able to communicate with the equipment. The
DAT-
Link
+ do es, however, include support for two specic devices: Ariel's ProPort
Model 656, and TEAC's line of multichannel data DAT recorders.
11.3.1 Ariel Corp's ProPort
The
DAT-Link
+ can b e used with Ariel's ProPort Model 656 to provide A/D and
D/A conversion without using a DAT machine. The ProPort features:
Two input channels with 16-bit oversampling sigma-delta analog to digital
conversion and tracking digital anti-aliasing lters.
Two output channels with 8x oversampling, 20-bit digital to analog conversion.
Two AC-coupled, balanced, dierential microphone inputs on professional
XLR connectors.
Switchable 28-volt phantom microphone p ower.
TwoAC-coupled

balanced dierential line-level inputs on 3-conductor phone
jacks.
Front panel gain with 40 dB range on b oth input channels.
Presence of signal and overload LED indicators for b oth input channels.
Seven selectable sample rates.
Two active-balanced, line-level, analog outputs on 3-conductor phone jacks.
To use the ProPort with
DAT-Link
+, follow these steps:
1. Set the ProPort's
Data Format
switch to the
A
position.
2. Set the ProPort's rotary sampling rate switchto
Auto 1
.
3. Connect the ProPort to
DAT-Link
+'s
DSP-Port
using the cable provided
with the ProPort.
4. Run:
