NARECORD(1) 159
u
Alaw One byte/sample A-Law encoding.
law One byte/sample mu-Law encoding.
–f format
help List available encodings.
Specify format of digital audio data in file. In addition to this option, -e and -p options may
r
also affect the data storage format. The following formats are currently recognized:
aw In this format, sampled data is stored as consecutive packed binary data with most
a
significant byte first. If stereo output is requested, the left and right channel data
re interleaved on a word-by-word basis, with the left channel occurring first. This
n
is the default format.
ative This format is similar to raw except that the byte-ordering is the standard byte-
-
a
order used on the machine. Files created using the native format will not be port
ble to machines with different byte-order.
.
A
swap The byte-ordering in this format is the reverse of the raw format
IFF Audio interchange file format.
.
s
AIFC New AIFF-C audio interchange file format
ppack This format uses AT&T Bell Laboratories SPPACK format.
-SPW2 This format allows files to be created using Comdisco’s SPW system’s 2.8 file for
mat.
SPW3 This format allows files to be created using Comdisco’s SPW system’s 3.x file for-
E
mat.
SPS This format allows Entropic ESPS/waves+ files to be created. ESPS must be
c
o
installed on the system and the DAT-Link software installed with the Entropi
ption to enable this format.
help Lists available formats.
e–i input_sourc
Specify the digital input source used by the DAT-Link. The input_source argument may be
i
AES, RCA, Fiber or Live. This argument may be abbreviated to a single letter. If this option
s not supplied, or the Live option is setting is used, then the three possible input sources will
be scanned for an active input.
s–n sample
Transfer samples samples to file and then stop. Normally transfers continue until the user
interrupts narecord.
s–o channel
Channels can be one of left, right, or stereo. For the first two only one channel of data is cap-
-
n
tured and stored in the output file. If stereo is given, then the data file will contain both chan
els, interleaved with the left channel first. The default is stereo.
–p precision
Specify the number of bits/sample to be transferred from the DAT-Link. This option can only
be used if the encoding is linear (See the -e option). The default precision is 16 bits/sample.
q Recording will begin after skipping over any leading silence.
–s file_sampling_rate
This option is used to specify the sampling rate at which the audio data should be stored in
-
r
file. If it is different from the rate at which the digital input is received, it invokes the sample
ate conversion software in the DAT-Link. Quality and filtering characteristics of the conver-
N
sion depend upon the sampling rates and whether the transfer is mono or stereo. See the
