This chapter introduces the Trimble
®
R6 GPS
and R8 GNSS receivers, which are designed for
GPS surveying applications.
The Trimble R6 GPS and R8 GNSS receivers are
referred to in this section of the User Guide as
“the receiver”.
Where details refer to only one of the receiver
models, this is clearly identified.
The receiver incorporates a GPS antenna,
receiver, internal radio with a transmit option or
an internal GSM module, and a battery in a
rugged light-weight unit that is ideally suited as
an all-on-the-pole RTK rover. Three LEDs allow
you to monitor the satellite tracking, radio
reception, data logging status, and power.

wireless technology provides cable-
free communications between receiver and
controller.
The Trimble R6 GPS receiver provides 72 total
channels containing: GPS L1 C/A Code, L1/L2
Full Cycle Carrier and (Optional) GLONASS L1
C/A Code, L1 P Code, L2 P Code, and L1/L2 Full
Cycle Carrier satellite tracking and supports
logging of raw GPS observables to the handheld
controller for postprocessed applications.
The Trimble R8 GNSS receiver provides 72 total
channels containing GPS L1 C/A Code, L2C,
L1/L2/L5 Full Cycle Carrier, GLONASS L1 C/A
Code, L1 P Code, L2 P Code, and L1/L2 Full Cycle
Carrier satellite tracking and supports logging of
raw GPS observables to the handheld controller
for postprocessed applications.
The receiver does not postprocess raw GLONASS
observables.
The receiver is available as a standalone rover,
base station, or as part of the GPS Total Station
®
system, offering maximum versatility in the
system configuration to meet your specific
requirements.
