Trimble R6 GPS and R8 GNSS Receiver Operation
External UHF or GSM antenna
Depending on which module you have purchased, use this TNC connection for an
external antenna to enhance the UHF or GSM.
The UHF antenna is approximately 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) long, and round. The GSM
antenna is approximately 16.5 cm (6.5 inches), and flatter than the UHF antenna. Make
sure that you use the correct antenna or the signal will be degraded.
For more information on connecting the receiver, see the following sections in this
chapter.
13.2 Setup guidelines
Consider the following guidelines when setting up the receiver.
C
CAUTION – To satisfy the RF Exposure requirements of the FCC, you must maintain a
minimum separation distance of 20 cm (approximately 8 in.) between yourself and the
radiating GSM antenna for this device.
For mobile operation, the maximum gain of the GSM antenna must not exceed 0 dBi.
132.1 Environmental conditions
Although the receiver has a waterproof housing, take reasonable care to protect the
unit. Avoid exposure to extreme environmental conditions, including:
• Water
• Heat greater than 65 °C (149 °F)
• Cold less than –40 °C (–40 °F)
• Corrosive fluids and gases
132.2 Sources of electrical interference
Avoid the following sources of electrical and magnetic noise:
• Gasoline engines (spark plugs)
• Televisions and PC monitors
• Alternators and generators
• Electric motors
• Equipment with DC-to-AC converters
• Fluorescent lights
• Switching power supplies
