Opening and Closing Connection to
Devices
Depending on your system configuration, you can open the connection
directly to sensors, or via a data collector. For details, see the following
sections.
Opening and Closing Connection Directly to Field
Device
To connect to field devices directly, do the following in the Connection
Control panel:
1. In the list on the left in the Connection Control panel, click the
device that you want to connect to. If your system includes a separate
maintenance line, select it for connecting.
2. In duplicated systems, select the server from the drop-down list next
to the Connect button. It is recommended that you connect to the hot
standby CDU in order to avoid interrupting the data flow. For more
information, see section Connection via Active or Hot Standby Server
on page 99.
3. Click the Connect button.
4. The connection is opened. Connection status, device name, server,
and port are displayed in the status bar. If the sensor is in auto-send
mode, the sensor messages will appear in the Terminal panel.
5. Enter the commands as described in section Sending Commands to
Devices on page 102.
You can close the connection by clicking the Disconnect button in the
Connection control panel.
CAUTION
When connecting through the active CDU, the data flow from data
collector to the end-user applications is interrupted.
