The systems can be one of the following types:
- A single-CDU system with workstations
- A single-CDU system without workstations
- A duplicated system with two CDUs.
In a duplicated system both central data units process the same data. If one
of the CDUs fails, the other CDU continues working transparently to users
and without any disruption to system performance. A CDU may be used as
an end-user workstation, too.
Single-CDU System with Workstations
A single-CDU system with workstations contains one CDU that is installed
on a separate computer and at least one workstation.

A single-CDU system without workstations contains a CDU without
separate workstations. The CDU serves as a workstation.
