Workstations
The following software applications are installed in end-user workstations:
- AviMet software applications (as appropriate)
- Operating system: Windows® 7 Professional (Windows® XP/
Windows® Vista)
For more information on the workstation types and software applications,
see section Workstation Types on page 24.
Log Printer (Optional)
A log printer can be configured, for instance, to automatically print all
Diagnostics application messages as they appear.
Data Output to External Systems
(Optional)
Most AviMet system data can be sent to an external system for further use.
Vaisala can provide a serial output or TCP/IP connection as an optional
feature. The standard data output format is specified in a separate
METDATA specification document. Vaisala does not provide the
interface software for the external system.
Digital Displays (Optional)
Digital displays such as DD50 Digital Display or Vaisala WD series Wind
Display can be connected to the AviMet system via an EIA-232 serial line.
At distances greater than 15 meters, modems or EIA-485 are used.
System Architecture
The AviMet systems are built on the Remote Object Architecture (ROA)
designed by Vaisala. The ROA architecture is an implementation of the
publisher-subscriber model (similar to the producer-consumer model),
which is used to provide a distributed, modular system environment.
The main components of the ROA architecture are processes and objects.
They process the data flow in the system and direct the data from the
sensors to the end-user workstations. In addition, there are AviMet
applications which are graphical or text-based user interfaces.
