GLOSSARY
This glossary contains descriptions and definitions for unique terms and
abbreviations used in this manual.
The highlighted words in the explanation indicate that the words have their
own glossary entry.
acknowledge Clicking the "Acknowledge" button in order to inform the system that
you have seen an event message in the Diagnostics application.
active CDU In duplicated systems, the CDU that currently provides data for end-
user applications. See also passive CDU.
automatic switch-
over
In duplicated systems, automatic switch-over takes place when the
currently active CDU has a malfunction. The passive CDU (hot
standby) takes over and becomes the active CDU.
alarm message A Diagnostics system event message with ALARM or WARNING
status. A sign of serious system problems.
ASCII Log View An AviMet application for viewing stored data in text files.
audiovisual alarms Optional function. Sound and color signals activated in the Weather
View application when there is a predefined change in the weather.
backup data status A data status shown in Weather View data fields with a yellow
background color for other than LLWAS wind data. It indicates that the
data is provided by a backup sensor. See also data status.
calculated data Weather parameters that the Central Data Unit (CDU)produces through
calculations, in contrast to measured data. Calculated data is based on
measured data.
CDU Central data unit, a computer that processes sensor data. An AviMet
system can include one or two CDUs.
