3-2 ESI and ESCi Modes of Operation
Introduction
The ESI and ESCi ionization mode options use the standard ESI probe that is
fitted to the instrument when it is shipped from the factory. For ESCi
operation, the corona pin is used in conjunction with the ESI probe. The
following sections explain how to install and remove the ESI probe and corona
pin.
For further instruction, see “Electrospray ionization (ESI)” on page 1-7 and
“Combined ESI and APCI (ESCi)” on page 1-7.
Installing the ESI probe
Probe compatibility warning label:
Required material: Chemical-resistant, powder-free gloves
Warning: On instruments bearing the probe compatibility
warning label (below), always use an ESI probe whose design
incorporates a drain spout. In the event of a leak at the capillary
union, using an older ESI probe model, whose design does not
incorporate a drain spout, can lead to unmanaged solvent
spillage and an associated risk of ignition.
