There are 10 ring groups in total. The e-m@iler is factory-set so that all calls use
group 1 – including unknown callers. Therefore, always leave group 1 for
general/unknown calls – do not use it as a ring group for a member of your
household.
Calls that display Number withheld (which include calls from switchboards) and
Number unavailable (which include calls from abroad) are also factory-set to
group 1 – these can be redefined, however (information on page 151).
Example scenario
Imagine there are 4 family members in a household: Mum, Dad and 2 teenagers, with
each of the 4 requiring their own ring group. Now, having decided how many ring
groups you require, the next step would be to download a ringtone for each group.
(You could also download an extra ringtone to use for the general/unknown group.)
Once the ringtones were downloaded, you could then edit each Address Book entry's
ring group in accordance with the call recipient. To illustrate: if Mum were defined as
ring group 2 and she knew that all calls from Wendy were for her, she could edit the
Address Book entry for Wendy to group 2. Likewise, if Dad were defined as ring
group 3, he could edit the Address Book entry for his friend Pete to group 3.
& Tip – define an extra ring group for calls you don't want to answer. Thereafter,
when you hear the allocated ringtone, you can leave the phone to ring or
let VoiceMail answer the call.
