♦ If you subscribe to Caller Display and select
manual collection, then instead of the
e-m@iler automatically calling up Amserve
when email is waiting, it will simply notify you
on the display (see right) as well as flashing
the red email light.
& Note, if you’ve selected manual collection but have not made an email call
for 24 hours, the
e-m@iler will do so automatically (described below).
You can collect email manually at any time by holding down the EMAIL
button for approx 5 seconds until the message Dialling for email is
displayed at the bottom of the screen.
We recommend that you subscribe to Caller Display and set
automatic collection. This offers two major advantages: firstly, email can be
delivered to you the moment it arrives at Amserve; secondly, it provides you
with caller identification which allows you to see the name and number of
the caller before you pick up the phone. With most telephone service
providers, you can call 150 and ask for this service to be added (then refer to
page 139). Caller Display also enables you to designate specific 'ringtones' to
certain callers or recipients (see also page 95).
You cannot use Caller Display and automatic collection if you're using the
e-m@iler as a switchboard extension.

♦ If polling is selected, the e-m@iler will poll at regular intervals according to your
setting. (The polling period is set to every 24 hours when you receive the
e-m@iler
brand new.) The section 'Changing email collection' on page 136 shows you how
to change the polling period. When selecting the polling period, bear in mind
that each time polling takes place, the
e-m@iler will make an email call
which is charged at the email call rate.
♦ If automatic collection or manual collection is selected but no email has been
sent or collected for 24 hours, the
e-m@iler will poll automatically. This is to
safeguard against any disruption of the email notification system that would
otherwise result in your email not being collected. This is also to make sure your
