COMBUSTIONAIR AND
VENTTERMINATIONS
A WARNING: READ AND
FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS IN
THIS SECTION. FAILURE TO
PROPERLY VENT THIS FURNACE
CAN CAUSE AN EXPLOSION. FIRE
OR CARBON MONOXIDE
POISONING RESULTING IN
PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL
INJURY OR DEATH.
GENERAL INFORMATION
This furnace removes both sensible
and latent heat energy from the
combustion flue gases. Latent heat
removal causes condensation of flue
gas water vapor. This condensed
water vapor drains from the
secondary heat exchanger to a
drain trap.
If installed as a
non-direct vent
furnace, inside combustion air may
be used.
Direct vent installations
require all combustion air to be
supplied directly to the burner
compartment from
outdoors.
IMPORTANT:
COMBUSTION AIR
IS REQUIRED FOR BOTH DIRECT
AND NON-DIRECT VENT
FURNACE INSTALLATIONS.
The Schedule 40 PVC, PVC-DWV,
or ABS-DWV combustion air ana
vent pipe and fittings must conform
to American National Standards
Institute (ANSI) and American
Society for Testing Materials (ASTM)
standards D178.5, D2665, D2241,
D2661, and F628. These address
the proper vent materials.
Cellular core PVC is also approved
for use. It must be schedule 40 PVC-
DWV cellular pipe for non-pressure
applications and manufactureC: under
ASTM F-89,.
In Canada, all combustion air and
vent pipe must be CSA or ULC
certified schedule 40 PVC, PVC-
DWV, or ABS-DWV.

APPL YING PVC CEMENT
CEMENTING JOl!',;TS
All joints in the PVC or ABS vent
must be properly sealed using the
following materiai and procedures.
PVC CLEANER-PRIMER AND
PVC MEDIUM BODY SOL VENT
CEMENT.
1. Cut the pipe squarely, remove
ragged edges and burrs.
Chamfer the pipe edge, then
clean the fitting socket and pipe
joint area of ali dirt, grease and
moisture.
2. After checking the pipe and
socket for a proper fit, wipe the
socket and pipe with cleaner-
primer. Apply a liberal coat of
primer to the inside surface or
the socket and outside of the
pipe. DO NOT ALLOW THE
PRIMER TO DRY BEFORE
APPL YING THE CEMENT.
3. Apply a thin coat
of cement
evenly in the socket. Quickly
apply a heavy coat of cement to
the pipe end anc insert the pipe
into the fitting with a slight
twisting movement until it
bottoms out.
NOTE: The cement must be fluid. If
not, re-coat.
