10. easyE4 communication Connection to other devices
10.17 Modbus TCP
easyE4 as Modbus TCP Client
Only available on firmware version 1.30 or higher.
If a Modbus TCP server module is connected to an easyE4 base device on the work
pane
by dragging and dropping it there, the easyE4 base device will automatically become
a Modbus TCP client. Up to four Modbus TCP server modules can be configured for
an easyE4 base device.
easyE4 response times
When working with applications where timing is critical, it is important to consider
the response times for Modbus TCP communication.
As a Modbus TCP client, easyE4 has a minimum possible update rate of 30 ms. This
rate is adjustable.
As a Modbus TCP server, easyE4 has a minimum possible response time of 30 ms.
This time is fixed.
This means than an easyE4 functioning as a Modbus TCP client with exactly one
easyE4 functioning as a
Modbus TCP server would be able to achieve a minimum response time of 30 ms.
If, however, two Modbus TCP clients are run, the minimum response time for each cli-
ent will be 60 ms.

If an easyE4 functioning as a Modbus TCP client controls a maximum of four Modbus
TCP servers and each Modbus TCP server has a response time of 30 ms, then the
easyE4 will be able to transmit its requests simultaneously and directly process the
responses that arrive at the same time. In this case, the response time will be insig-
nificantly greater than 30 ms.
