Command Usage
This command is only active in the spanning tree root device. This com-
mand sets the maximum time (in seconds) a device can wait without receiv-
ing a configuration message before attempting to reconfigure. All device
ports (except for designated ports) should receive configuration messages
at regular intervals. Any port that ages out STA information (provided in the
last configuration message) becomes the designated port for the attached
LAN. If it is a root port, a new root port is selected from among the device
ports attached to the network.
Example
ecn330(config)# ecn spanning-tree max-age 40
11.6.3.5.4 mode
Use this command to select the spanning tree mode for the ECN.
Command level: ecn330(config)#.
Syntax
ecn spanning-tree mode {rstp|stp}
Arguments:
• mode rstp/stp – Select stp for Spanning Tree Protocol (IEEE
802.1D), or rstp for Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (IEEE
802.1w).
Default Settings
RSTP
Command Usage
Spanning Tree Protocol
Uses RSTP for the internal state machine but sends only 802.1D BPDUs
(Bridge Protocol Data Units).
Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol
RSTP supports connections to either STP or RSTP nodes by monitoring
the incoming protocol messages and dynamically adjusting the type of pro-
tocol messages the RSTP node transmits, as described below:
