UNSCHEDULED SERVICING
1. WINTER OPERATION
A. General
It is considered a winter operation, if the outside temperature falls below +5 °C.
B. Preparing the airplane for winter operation
(1) Airplane airframe
(a) Lubricate the airplane in accordance with the Lubricating Chart in the scope of
inspection after 100 hours of operation, if the last inspection was not within 6
months (Section 12-20).
(b) Check and adjust rudder control cable prestress (Section 27-20).
(c) Check the cockpit canopy rubber packing. If it is damaged, replace it.
(d) Check the fuel tank bleeding.
(e) Check attachment of wings, ailerons, flaps and tail units; lubricate in accordance
with the Lubricating Chart.
(2) Engine
Do procedures mentioned in the Operators Manual for Rotax Engine Type 912 Series,
Doc. No. OM912, 899649):
(a) Add Anti-freeze to the cooling system as required (usually a 50/50 mix) (Section
12-10).
(b) Change the oil (Section 12-10).
(c) Check the spark plug gaps (refer to Maintenance Manual (Line Maintenance) for
Rotax Engine Type 912 Series, Doc. No. MML912, 899191).
(d) If low coolant (cylinder heads) and oil temperatures occur during operation under
low outside temperature, then do these procedures:
1 Install the coolant cooler screen (1, Fig. 12-04).
2 Install the oil cooler screen (2).
NOTE
Installation of the winterization kit is the same for new engine
cowlings.
