8.3.3 Correct handling of damaged batteries
CAUTION:
Discharging acid can cause skin burns if the battery is damaged:
Always change out of soiled or soaked clothing immediately!
If contact with skin is made:
Always wash the skin immediately with plenty of water!
If contact with eyes is made:
Always rinse your eyes out immediately under running water for several minutes! It is
imperative that you consult an eye specialist immediately!
Pre-requisites:
protective goggles
acid-proof gloves
acid-proof transport container
If handling damaged batteries, always wear suitable protective clothing.
Always deposit damaged batteries in suitable acid-proof containers immediately after removal.
Only transport damaged batteries in suitable acid-proof containers.
Always wash any objects which were contacted by acid in plenty of fresh water.
Always dispose of used or damaged batteries correctly
Used and damaged batteries will be taken back by your medical equipment supplier or
Invacare®.
