Power operated adjustment of the saw blade(s)
and/or fence(s) on circular saw benches

For circular saw benches any powered movement for
adjusting the saw blade(s) and/or the fence(s) i.e. rip
fence and cross-cutting fence shall be initiated by a start
control from the operator, the control system of which
shall conform at least to PL=c in accordance with the
requirements of EN ISO 13849-1:2008.
The control systems for each power-operated movement
shall conform at least to PL=b in accordance with the
requirements of EN ISO 13849-1:2008.
Where powered movements are controlled by a hold-to-
run control device only one powered movement shall be
possible at a time. An emergency stop control shall be
positioned in the vicinity of the hold-to-run control device
taking account of basic principles of EN ISO 12100:2010,
6.2.11.8 b) when the corresponding safety related control
system for hold-to-run control is at least in PL=b in
accordance with the requirements of EN ISO 13849-
1:2008.
Where the control system for the hold-to-run control
device conforms to PL=c in accordance with the
requirements of EN ISO 13849-1:2008 the hold-to-run
control device and the initiation control device may be
merged together.
Where powered movements are under pre-set electronic
control more than one movement at a time is possible if
the initiated movements do not lead to a collision between
the moving machine parts or between the moving and
fixed machine parts.

For stopping the powered movements, the following
requirements shall be met:
a) on release of hold to run control devices (e.g. for + or
movements) the powered movement shall stop and
power shall be cut to powered movements motors at
most after 15 s hold-to-run control has been released in
PL=c;
b) for powered movements under pre-set electronic
control the power shall automatically be cut off to
powered movements motors when the target position is
reached or when the powered movement stop control
device is activated in PL=c.
As an exception in both a) and b) power can be cut-off in
PL=b when using a time delay in accordance with 5.2.1.2
