Test Report No.: 17702074 003
Part I of II
h) on saw benches which are designed to be used with
saw blade diameters of > 315 mm, the saw blade
guard shall be an automatically adjustable guard or a
manually adjustable guard adjustable in height and
mounted separately from the riving knife. The support
for the saw blade guard shall be designed for integral
mounting to the machine (see Figure 1). When the
support is an integral part of the machine it shall not be
in line behind the riving knife;
i) on circular saw bench fitted with the facility for
grooving, the saw blade guard shall be mounted
separately from the riving knife independently from the
maximum diameter of the saw blades. For each
grooving operation the tool (either saw blade or milling
tool) shall be covered from above access, either by
saw blade guard mounted separately from the riving
knife or by providing the mountings for a protecting
device mounted on the parallel fence (see 5.3.9 and
6.3 b)
Verification: By checking the relevant drawings, inspection
of the machine and relevant functional testing of the
machine.
Additional requirements for riving knife mounted saw
blade guards
Access to the top and sides of the exposed saw teeth
shall be prevented from the guard mounting point on the
riving knife to the first cutting tooth at the machine table
level for all intended saw blade diameters and highest
vertical position of the saw blade. It may be necessary to
provide more than one fixing point on the riving knife in
order to achieve this requirement.
Verification: By checking the relevant drawings, inspection
of the machine and relevant functional testing of the
machine.
It shall be possible to fix the saw blade guard on the riving
knife in such a way that work piece jamming is avoided if
the saw blade guard is raised to its highest position. This
requirement shall be met independent of the height
