UPPER CRANKCASE
SEAL
General
The presence of oil under the flywheel could indi-
cate a leaking upper crankcase seal. The upper
crankcase seal can be replaced without disas-
sembly of crankcase. Refer to FLYWHEEL SER-
VICING on p. 97 for flywheel removal.
Removal
Use Remover/Installer Kit, P/N 391060.
To remove seal, install tip “C,” P/N 326270, into
remover/installer body, P/N 326271. Thread
remover/installer body with tip into seal to engage
metal case.
While holding remover/installer body, turn press-
ing screw, P/N 342227, and remove seal.
Installation
To install a new seal, apply Gasket Sealing Com-
pound to the outside diameter of the metal casing.
Position seal on crankshaft with lip facing crank-
case assembly.
Use a mallet to install the seal flush with the top of
the crankcase flange.
