EXHAUST HOUSING

IMPORTANT: A distorted exhaust housing will
cause the upper driveshaft splines to wear exces-
sively and will damage the crankshaft splines.
Assembly
Install the lower thrust mount and shift rod grom-
met.
Apply GE RTV adhesive and install the two upper
mounts. Apply Nut Lock to the four upper mount
retaining screws and torque to 60 to 84 in. lbs.
(7 to 9 N·m).
Place the upper thrust mount and plate in position
on the swivel bracket assembly.
Clean all sealant from the threads on the two
upper mount to steering bracket screws. Apply
Nut Lock to threads of screws. Position the swivel
bracket assembly on the exhaust housing. Install
the two upper mount screws and tighten to a
torque of 18 to 20 ft. lbs. (24 to 27 N·m). Install
caps with new O-rings and torque screws to 60 to
84 in. lbs. (7 to 9 N·m).
