until seated. Then back out shift rod until slotted
face of connector faces the driveshaft.
Pull shift rod up and install cradle on yoke.
Apply Needle Bearing grease to the forward thrust
washer and install in relief area of forward gear.
Using long-nose pliers, place the clutch dog in the
cradle. Groove on the clutch dog must face the
forward gear.
Hold propeller shaft in place and move shift rod to
NEUTRAL position.
Apply Needle Bearing grease to the thrust washer,
propeller shaft spring, and two detent balls. install
thrust washer behind splines on propeller shaft.
Install the spring and balls in the propeller shaft.
Align the two detent balls with the two grooves in
the internal splines of the clutch dog. Aid installa-
tion of loose detent ball with a flat blade screw-
driver. Push the propeller shaft into the clutch dog,
forward gear, and the forward bearing.
