Note:Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,youmusteitherupdatetheserverwiththelatestfirmwareor
restorethepre-existingfirmwarethatthecustomerprovidesonadisketteorCDimage.Makesurethatyou
havethelatestfirmwareoracopyofthepre-existingfirmwarebeforeyouproceed
Toremovethesystemboard,completethefollowingsteps.
Step1.Removethecover(see“Removingthecover”onpage157).
Step2.Removetheairbaffle(see“Removingtheairbaffle”onpage159).
Step3.RemovethePCIriser-cardassembly(see“RemovingthePCIriser-cardassembly”onpage163).
Step4.Notewherethecablesareconnectedtothesystemboard;then,disconnectthem.
Attention:Disengagealllatches,cableclips,releasetabsorlocksoncableconnectorswhenyou
disconnectallcablesfromthesystemboard(see“Internalcableroutingandconnectors”onpage
259).Failingtoreleasethembeforeremovingthecableswilldamagethecableconnectorsonthe
systemboard.Thecableconnectorsonthesystemboardarefragile.Anydamagetothecable
connectorsmayrequirereplacingthesystemboard.
Step5.Removeanyofthefollowingcomponentsthatareinstalledonthesystemboardandputthemina
safe,static-protectiveplace:
•Adapters(see“Removinganadapter”onpage184)
•DIMMs(see“RemovingaDIMM”onpage167)
Note:MakeanoteofthelocationofeachDIMMasyouremoveit,sothatyoucanlaterreinstall
itinthesameconnector.
•Microprocessorsandheatsinks(see“Removingamicroprocessorandheatsink”onpage240)
Notes:
1.Removethesocketcoversfromthemicroprocessorsocketsonthenewsystemboardand
placethemonthemicroprocessorsocketsofthesystemboardyouareremoving.
2.Donotallowthethermalgreasetocomeincontactwithanything,andkeepeachheat
sinkpairedwithitsmicroprocessorforreinstallation.Contactwithanysurfacecan
compromisethethermalgreaseandthemicroprocessorsocket.Amismatchbetweenthe
microprocessoranditsoriginalheatsinkcanrequiretheinstallationofanewheatsink.
