FIGURE 15. ADJUST BRAKE PEDAL FREE TRAVEL
The brake pedal should have about 3/8" free travel before resistance is felt (linkage
begins to push booster piston).
1. Remove cover plate.
2. Disconnect upper end of turnbuckle and turn in or out to decrease or increase
pedal travel.
3. Reconnect turnbuckle and check pedal free travel. Repeat step 2 if necessary.
4. Reinstall cover plate.
1.13 THROTTLE PEDAL RECALIBRATION REQ. FOR CUMMINS ENG.
The throttle pedal must always be calibrated when it’s replaced on a Cummins
engine using the following procedure.
1. Start the procedure with the engine and ignition key OFF & the throttle pedal in
the idle position.
2. Turn the ignition start key ON (engine is still OFF).
3. Wait 5 seconds.
4. Depress the pedal to FULL throttle position and hold for 3 seconds.
5. Release the pedal tot he IDLE position.
6. Wait 3 seconds.
7. Depress the pedal to FULL throttle position again and hold for 3 seconds.
8. Release the pedal to the idle position again.
9. Wait for 3 seconds.
10. Turn ignition start key to OFF.
11. Wait 5 seconds.
12. The throttle pedal is now calibrated; turn the ignition start key ON and
start the engine.
