Wheel and tyre balance
Unbalance in wheel and tyre assemblies may
be responsible for various effects such
as
wheel
wo
bble, abnorm
al
wear
of
ty
r
es
and suspension
parts, vibration in the steering or, in extreme
cases, the w hole vehicle.
If
any
of
these faults
are apparent, for
whic
h no other cause can
be
fo
und, wheel and tyre
ba
lance should be
checked statically and corrected according to
instructions
supplied by the manufacturer of the
ba
lancing equipmen
t.

re-balanced it is
esse
ntial that the weight
of
the vehicle be
removed from the tyr
es
as
soon
as
possible after
a
ru
n so that temporary flat spots do
not
form
on the tyr
es
.
Spa
re
wheel and retaining bracket
The spare wheel
of
the Saloon is housed in a
recess at the rear
of
the vehicle (see Fig
ur
e 4)
and the
spa
re wheel for the
va
n against the

L.
H. side of the body. Both
are
held in position
by a retainer secured to a
ba
cking plate assembly
by a
-fs
UNF bolt and washer (see F
igure
7
and Fig
ur
e 8 - S

n 0 ).
The backing plate for the spare wheel retainer
can be removed,
if
necessary, by drilling the
heads
off
the retaining rivets
with
a 5·56mm
(0·219in)
dia dr
il
l and then tapping out the
rivet shafts. Refit the backing plate assembly to
the body
with
four 4·76 x 1 0·16mm
(0·188
x 0·40in) rivets.
