Flat spots or hesitation on progressive opening
can
generally
be
eliminated by careful adjustment
of
the
slow
running mixture.
Loss
of
power
Check jet needle valve sizes, make certain that
all jets and passages
are
clear and that the
throttle is opening fully.
Accelerator pedal assembly
The accelerator pedal shares a mounting bracket
assembly
with
clutch and brake pedals. This
assembly has
to
be
removed from the vehicle
footwell
before the pedals can
be
dismantled,
the procedure
of
which
is described in Section
H.
Accelerator cable (early vehicles)
To
adjust
1 Remove centre console (see
Section
R).
2 Remove engine rear access
panel.
3 Prise plastic grommet from
L.
H. side
of
engine compartment.
4 Using a
long screwdriver through rear
access aperture,
slacken throttle trunnion screw.
5
Pull the accelerator cable
to
take
up
the
slack, using long nosed pliers through grommet
access aperture and then retighten trunnion
screw through rear access aperture.
6
Start the engine, check operation
of
the
throttle and readjust,
if
necessary. Replace
grommet, rear access panel and centre console.
To
remove
1 Remove centre console (see
Secti~n
R).
2 Remove engine rear access
panel.
3 Prise plastic access grommet from L.H. side
of
engine bulkhead.
4 Using a long screwdriver through rear
access aperture,
slacken throttle lever trunnion
screw.
5
Unhook
accelerator cable lug from pedal,
release plastic
retaining fastener from pedal
mounting bracket, and
withdraw
cable.
6 From inside engine compartment
withdraw
cable through engine bulkhead.
7 Release retaining fastener from support
bracket on
cylinder head,
withdraw
accelerator
cable
and remove from vehicle.
To
replace
1 Thread
new
cable through grommet in
engine bulkhead, connect
to
accelerator pedal
and locate retaining fastener in pedal mounting
bracket.

Insert accelerator cable through support
bracket, locate inner cable
in
throttle lever
trunnion, and secure outer cable
with
retaining
fastener.
3 Using
long nosed pliers through access
grommet aperture pull the accelerator cable
to
take
up
the slack and then retighten trunnion
screw through rear access aperture.
4
Replace access grommet and rear access
panel.
5 Replace centre console.
Accelerator cable (later vehicles)
To
adjust
1 From inside engine compartment slacken
the locknut securing throttle cable adjuster
to
abutment bracket on cylinder head.
2 Move adjuster
down
the slot in abutment
bracket
to
take
out
the slack in the cable and
retighten
locknut.
3 Start the engine, check operation
of
the
throttle and readjust the cable,
if
necessary.
To
remove
1 Slacken locknut securing throttle cable
adjuster
to
abutment bracket, slide adjuster
down
slot in abutment bracket and disconnect
cable at throttle lever trunnion.

2 Remove locknut and washer and disconnect
adjuster from abutment bracket.

Unhook
acce.lerator cable lug from pedal,
release plastic retaining fastener from pedal
mounting bracket, and
withdraw
cable.
4 From inside engine compartment
withdraw
cable through rubber grommet in engine
bulkhead and remove from vehicle.
To
replace
1 Thread
new
cable through grommet in
engine bulkhead, connect
to
accelerator pedal
and locate retaining fastener in pedal mounting
bracket.
2 Locate
cable in throttle lever trunnion.
3
Secure cable adjuster in abutment bracket,
slide
down
the bracket slot
to
take
up
slack,
and tighten locknut.
4 Start the engine, check operation
of
the
throttle and readjust,
if
necessary.
