Exhaust system

Description
The exhaust system
of
the Saloon and Van
comprises three main units, the manifold,
exhaust downpipe, and silencer
which
incorporates a short tailpipe.
The
down
pipe
of
the system is secured to the
manifold by
two

UN F nuts, the silencer and
tail section being flexibly mounted by
two
rubber/asbestos straps secured to the chassis.
To
remove
exhaust
system
(see
Figure
1)
1 Remove
two

UNF nuts and disconnect
downpipe from manifold.
2 Remove
i UNF set screw, coach washer
and nut, release the
two
silencer support straps
from their chassis mountings and carefully
withdraw
exhaust system from the rear
of
the
vehicle.
3 To disconnect silencer from
down
pipe
slacken

UN F clamp bolt and nut.
4 Replace in reverse order, fitting a new
downpipe gasket
to
the manifold.
Note:
Periodic checks should be made to the
exhaust system for tightness at all securing
and mounting points. The system should be
tightened up again after the engine
has
been
running.
