race from steering box taking care not
to
misplace the bearings.

Withdraw
lower
steering column and worm
through
lower
bearing aperture.
8 From inside steering
box
and using a suitable
drift
drive
out
the nylon oil seal.
9 Using the same
drift
tap the upper bearing
into
steering
box
housing. The bearings and
bearing
tr
ack can then be removed through
cover plate aperture. Take care not to misplace
the bearings.

Drive out rockershaft bush and oil
sea
l
from steering box housing.

Check the components for wear.
Note
: Only the cover plate gasket. bearings,
bushes,
oil seals and shi
ms
of
the internal
components
of
the steering
box
are available
as
replacement parts. Therefore,
if
the rockershaft.
follower
peg and
lower
steering column
wo
rm
and spline are excessively
worn
a
new
steering
box
assemblv
will
have
to
be
fitted.

Slide the outer column tube from upper
steering column.

Press in retaining lugs and remove nylon
bushes fr
om
o
ut
er column and check for wear
replacing
if
necessary for subsequent
reassembly.
Check also the condition
of
the
rubber bush fitted over the column.

1 Fill the reservoirs
of
the nylon bushes
with
fresh grease and then fit bushes in outer
column ensuring the pegs
of
the bushes
are
firmly seated in the column location
ho

lide
rubber support bush over outer column,
if removed during dismantling.
3 Carefully insert the top
of
the upper column
into
outer column. Check that the
nylon
bushes
of
o
ut
er column have
not
been disturbed.
4 Fit a n
ew
rockershaft bush in steering box
housing positioning flush
with
oil seal seating
face.
5 Locate new rockershaft oil
sea
l in steering
box
housing,
wi
th metal ring facing inwards.
6 Fit u
ppe
r bearing track using a
su
it
able drift,
followed
by nylon o
il
seal.
Ensu
re
oil
sea
l firmly
abuts bearing track.

Smear upper bearing track liberally
with
grease a
nd
locate ball bearings.
8 Carefully insert
lower
steering column and
worm
into
steering box housing from end plate
end and locate in
lower
and upper bearings.
9 Smear bearing track
with
grease and
locate ball bearings.

Locate l
ower
bearing track in steering
box
housing
followed
by retaining washer.

Position packing shims and then secure
end plate to steering box
with
three bolts and
lockwashers.

Insert rockershaft assembly. ensuring the
fo
ll
ower
peg is located in the centre
of
the l
ower
column
worm
.

Fit a
new
gasket and then secure cover
plate to steering box
with
four
bolts and
lock washers.

Reconnect drop arm to rockershaft spline.
securing
with
flf
UNF nut and plain washer.

Refill steering box
with
the recommended
oil.
To
replace
1 Secure steering box assembly to chassis
mounting bracket
with
three i UNF set screws
and lockwashers.
2 Reconnect track rod to drop arm fixing
with
i
UNF
self locking nut a
nd
pla
in
washer.
3 Locate upper column support grommet in
footwall aperture.
4 From inside the vehicle carefully slide the
upper
co
lumn through
SL!PPOrt
grommet and
