4.5.1 Test during commissioning and in certain situations
Minimum requirements
T
he protective device and its application must be thoroughly checked in the following
situations:
Before commissioning
After changes to the configuration or the safety function
After changes to the mounting, the alignment, or the electrical connection
After exceptional events, such as after manipulation has been detected, after
modification of the machine, or after replacing components
The thorough check ensures the following:
All relevant regulations are complied with and the protective device is active for all
of the machine’s operating modes. This includes the following points:
°
compliance with standards
°
correct use of the protective device
°
suitable configuration and safety function
°
correct alignment
The documentation accurately reflects the state/condition of the machine, includ‐
ing the protective device.
The verified configuration report matches the desired project planning (see "Verify
configuration", page 83).
The thorough checks must be carried out by qualified safety personnel or specially qual‐
ified and authorized personnel, and must be documented in a traceable manner.
Recommended thorough checks
In man
y cases, it makes sense to carry out the following thorough checks during com‐
missioning and in certain situations:
Test of the relevant points on the checklist, see "Checklist for initial commissioning
and commissioning", page 131
"Visual check of the machine and the protective device", page 47
"Thorough check of the principal function of the protective device", page 45
"Thorough check of the area to be protected", page 46
"Test of the contour detection field", page 46
Instruction of the operators in the function of the protective device
4.5.2 Regular thorough check
Overview
T
he purpose of regular tests is to detect defects due to changes or external influences
(e.g. damage or manipulation) and to ensure that the protective measure provides the
necessary protection.

Persons and parts of the body to be protected may not be recognized in case of non-
observance.

Carry out tests at least once a year.

Assign competent persons to carry out the tests or persons specifically authorized
for this purpose.

Document tests in a traceable manner.
