OutputWiring/LoadReactors
WhentheVFD/motorarerunning,highlevelsofelectricalnoiseareproducedonthewiringbetween
theVFDandthemotor.Thisisduetothefactthatmodifiedsinewavesprodu
cedbythedriveIGBTsare
basicallyhighfrequency/highvoltageDCpulses.Theseoutputwiresmustbeenclosedinsometypeof
shielding(metallicconduitormetal‐shielded cable)tomitigateradiatedelectricalnoise.
WirelengthbetweentheVFDandthemotorshouldbekepttoless than 150
feetifpossibleduetothe
reflectedwave/standingwavephenomenonandvoltageovershootphenomenon.Bothofthese
phenomenaarerathercomplex,andareafunctionofthewirelengthfromtheVFDtothemotor.The
reflectedwave/standingwavephenomenonandvoltageovershootphenom
enoncandamagenon‐
inverterdutymotorwindingsovertimeduetothehighpeakvoltagesthatthesephenomenacan
produce.
