SQM45andSQM48actuatorshavedualpotentiometersthatprovidefeedbacktotheLMV5to
verifyactuatorposition.Whenthesetwopotentiometersdisagree,theLMV5faultswithan
errorcode19.Thediagnosticcodewilldetailwhichactuatorishavingtheproblem.Ifanerror
code19isencountered,checkthefollowing:
1. EnsurethatparameterallowedPot.diffissetto15.Thisallowsamaximumdisagreement
of1.5°betweenthetwopotentiometers.
2. IfallowedPot.diffissetto15andtheLMV5continuestoreceiveerrorcode19,the
actuatormustbereplaced.Thelikelycauseofthedamagedactuatorisexcessivesideload
ontheactuatorshaftorexcessivevibration.Overtime,excessivesideloadontheactuator
shaftcanweardowntheshaftbearingsoftheac
tuator.Sincethepotentiometersare
mounteddirectlyontothebackoftheshaft,theywilldisagreemoreandmoreastheshaft
bearingswear.Excessivevibrationcanalsocausepotentiometerwearandleadtoanerror
code19.
3. Itisimperativethatpropercouplingsareusedwhenmountingactuators.Itishighly
recommendedtouseanSCCflexiblecouplingonallactuators.SCCcouplingseliminate
excessivesideloadduetotheirdesign.Furthermore,SCCcouplingsallowupto1/16”of
parallelmisalignmentand3°ofangularmisalignmentbetweentheactuatorandvalve
shafts.SeeDocumentNo.CPBK‐1000formoreinformationonavailableflexiblecouplings.
4. Itisalsoimportanttousearigidmountingbracketwhenmountinganyactuator.Excessive
vibrationovertimecanwearthepotentiometertracks.Ifthewearistoosevere,errorcode
19canresult.Rigidmountingbracketshelptominimizetheeffectsofvibration.SCCoffers
awidevarietyofbracketsandfullyassembledvalveactuatorassembliestoensureproper
mountingofactuators.SeeSection1formoredetails.
