7.3.3 Select Direction of Rotation (for Gray or Binary Code)
Direction of rotation right ( CW = clockwise)
When the encoder rotates in a “right-hand” direction (i.e., clockwise with the shaft facing the ob-
server), incrementing actual values are provided if:

When the encoder rotates in a “left–hand” direction (i.e., counterclockwise with the shaft facing
the observer), incrementing actual values are provided if:

With a resolution of more then 20 bits, a change to counterclockwise rotation
is not possible, as the sign bit becomes “1” (internal evaluation in twos’
complements).
