CHARGING THE NIMH BATTERIES
To charge the NiMH batteries:
Plug the ac charger or dc adapter into the charger connector in
the gauge’s control panel (see Figure 3–2 on page 3–3).
If using the ac charger, plug the other end of the charger into a
standard 100–240 V ac outlet. If using the dc adapter, connect
the other end to any 12-14 V dc source (such as a vehicle's
cigarette lighter). The battery charging indicator will light.
To ensure a full charge, allow the batteries to charge until the
battery charging indicator goes out (approximately 3 hours).
After recharging the batteries, unplug the ac charger or dc
adapter and store for later use.
NOTE
The battery select switch (see Figure C–2) must be in the
RECHARGEABLE position to charge the NiMH
batteries.
CHARGE CALIBRATION
If the Battery Status display (see page C–11) shows that the charge
calibration is BAD, recalibrate as follows:
Recharge the batteries as described above. When the battery
charging indicator goes out, press
STATUS and ensure that
the battery charge is 100%.
Disconnect the ac charger or dc adapter. Turn the gauge on and
press the
LIGHT key to turn on backlight.
Leave the power and backlight on and allow the batteries to
discharge completely. The gauge will shut off automatically
when it senses that the batteries are completely discharged.
NOTE
DO NOT recharge the batteries as described in the
following step until they have been completely
discharged.
