5.1 Group 1 - Engine frame and bearings
5.1.1 Bedplate
The bedplate is the basic structure of the engine. The bearing girders (001, Figure 5-1) are
attached in the bedplate and hold the crankshaft.
The bottom part of the bedplate is the crankcase and collects lubricating oil. This oil flows back to
the oil supply system through oil drains (002).
The length of the bedplate is related to the number of cylinders.
