Later versions of the A
2
O software have incorporated several
changes to the LIS communication protocol from that imple-
mented in earlier software versions. To accommodate installa-
tions that have already established LIS communications using
the earlier software versions, the current A
2
O software incorpo-
rates provisions to retain the following features of the earlier
protocols:
• The LIS specification states that each record within an LIS
message should be terminated with a <CR> character. It also
states that a block of records should be terminated with an
<ETX> character. Current versions of the A
2
O software ter-
minate each record with a <CR> character, followed by an
<ETX> character. Some earlier verisons of the A
2
O software
terminated each record with just an <ETX> character (not
preceded by a <CR> character). Checking the Don’t Send
<CR> Before <ETX> checkbox causes the A
2
O software to
omit sending the <CR> character.
• The LIS specification states that each LIS message should be
terminated with an <EOT> character. Some earlier versions
of the A
2
O software didn’t send the <EOT> character.
Checking the Don’t Send <EOT> checkbox causes the A
2
O
software to omit sending the <EOT> character.
LIS Activity Logging
The A
2
O can be configured to log all of the LIS operations that it per-
forms. This log can be exported to a USB stick as a text file.
To enable LIS activity logging, bring up the LIS setup screen and check
the Log LIS Activity checkbox, as show below. The LIS activity log
accumulates data continuously as the A
2
O performs LIS operations.
Pressing the Clear Activity Log button empties the log. Pressing the
Export Activity Log button writes the log to a USB memory stick.
