Calibration
This chapter describes the procedure for calibrating your instru-
ment. If you have questions or problems regarding the calibra-
tion procedure, please consult Chapter 6 ā Troubleshooting &
Service.
Calibration procedure
Calibration of the A
2
O is automatic. Following the procedure
suggested below, you simply select Calibrate and initiate freez-
ing-point tests on each of the calibration standards required for
the selected range.
The calibration standards required are:
Low range: 100, 900 and 2000 mOsm/kg H
2
O
Full range: 100, 900, 2000, and 3000 mOsm/kg H
2
O
For each range, the A
2
Oās internal calibration is performed in
two steps. First, it calculates the raw means of the results of
freezing point tests for each calibration standard. Then it per-
forms the necessary conversions. Each range is independently
calibrated.
Check the calibration frequently, as recommended in Chapter 2,
but do not recalibrate when the calibration is satisfactory.
Frequent recalibration is unnecessary. The calibration of a freez-
ing point osmometer in good condition and properly operated
will not shift or drift.
Both the Low and Full ranges were initially calibrated at the
factory. The A
2
O must be recalibrated anytime the sample or
