drains into the waste port during washing. All waste fluid is automati-
cally pumped to the waste bottle.
CAUTION Do not pour liquid into the cleaning station when the
pump is not running. Doing so will cause the cleaning
station to overflow, resulting in possible damage to the
interior of the instrument.
Pipettor (Figure 3)
The pipettor collects and transfers the sample from the primary tube to
the sample cup. In between samples, the pipette cleans the inside and
outside of the pipette tip in the cleaning station using system fluid.
CAUTION Do not allow the syringe pump to run dry for more than a
few cycles. Damage to the pump will result.
Osmometer turntable (Figure 3)
The osmometer turntable holds up to 20 Advanced Instruments 100 uL
single-use sample tubes. It also contains provisions for locating the
wiper ring used to clean the osmometer sample probe in between tests.
A sensor located beneath the turntable scans each of the 20 turntable
positions during the initial portion of the test sequence to identify which
positions contain sample tubes. The software records this information
to ensure that only those positions containing tubes are rotated into
position below the pipettor for sample dispensing.
CAUTION Do not rotate the osmometer module turntable manually
when loading or unloading tubes while electrical power is
applied to the instrument. Rotating the turntable can pro-
duce voltage spikes that can damage the electronics.
Manual rotation will also misalign the turntable, resulting
in possible damage to the sample probe during testing.
NOTE The A
2
O will not test tubes that were added after the scan for
tube locations is complete. Also, if tubes are removed after the
scan, the A
2
O will dispense fluid into the vacant positions.
