Instrument Operation
Fluid bottles (Figure 3)
The fluid management system does not contain any liquid level sensors.
It relies on the operator to reset the fluid levels whenever the system
fluid bottle is replaced or the waste bottle is emptied. Failure to do
so
will result in inaccuracies in the fluid levels displayed by the software.
• System Fluid
The system fluid bottle contains 500 mL of fluid. The system fluid is
used during pipettor system cleaning. Approximately 1 mL of system
fluid is used for each sample processed, so the 500 mL bottle should
be sufficient for processing 500 sample tests. The A
2
O Osmometer
System Fluid is the only fluid recommended for continuous use with
the product.
CAUTION Use of other types of cleaning fluids or water may not
properly clean the system and may, in some cases, affect
the test results of future samples due to carryover or dilu-
tion effects.
NOTE The software displays a message when approximately 50 mL of
system fluid remains in the bottle so that you can plan on
replacing it with a full bottle. The software displays a second
message when approximately 20 mL remains in the bottle. At
this point the bottle must be replaced and the fluid level reset as
described in Chapter 1, Step 9.
• Waste
The waste bottle collects excess sample and system fluid used to
flush the pipettor between tests. The bottle has a 1 L nominal capaci-
ty.
NOTE The software displays a message when approximately 900 mL
of fluid is in the waste bottle so that you can plan on emptying
it. The software displays a second message when approximately
950 mL is in the bottle. At this point the bottle must be emptied
and the fluid level reset as described in Chapter 1, Step 9.
