Mandatory CE marking in the EU
CE marking = manufacturer's declaration that his prod-
uct satisfies the respective legal requirements of the EU:
Safety, environmental, EMC, power requirements, etc.
Never purchase a eBike without CE marking
– If the dealer imports an eBike without a CE
mark then the dealer is considered to be the
manufacturer and is liable for the product.
– The risk exists that a regulatory ban on sales
is imposed and the goods are seized.
Obligations of the dealer
X Operating manual in local language must be handed
over to the purchaser (recommendation: verification
on invoice).
X Each eBike must have a bill of material. The CE
marking is only valid for the parts listed in this bill of
materials.
X The main components of the bicycle and eBike
system may not be exchanged or altered without the
manufacturer's approval.

Risks from tuning

products to increase performance.
X Such shall lead to an invalidation of the CE marking.
X The safety of the rider and other road users is
placed at risk.
X Guarantee and warranty claims are voided
X Damage to the eBike system and the bicycle may
result.
X Service life of the eBike system is reduced.
X A pedelec (eBike up to 25 km/h) tuned may
result in an S-pedelec – along with all the legal
