based on the updated angle information. The
actual angle value will then return to the desired
angle. Entering a new desired angle resets any
corrections made for that step. On a control with
a backgage, the actual angle entered will be dis-
played until the “Cycle Start” softkey is pressed.
The Actual Angle field will then change to display
the Desired Angle.
If the user enters a value in the REVERSAL posi-
tion field, the value field for ACTUAL ANGLE will
be blanked.
SPEED CHG (Speed Change): This value is the
ram location at which the ram speed is switched
from the rapid approach speed on the down
stroke to FORMING SPEED, and from the pro-
grammed RAM UP SPEED to HIGH on the up
stroke. This value is referenced from the bed of
the machine. The default speed change position
is the open height of the machine. This value
may also be entered by first positioning the ram
to the desired SPEED CHANGE position in
SETUP mode and using the TRN key to transfer
the actual ram position value into this field.
Speed Change is calculated automatically when
the top of material value is entered if the speed
change value is still at the default.
Valid Range: Closed Height - Open Height
Entry Format: XX.XXX English or XXX.XX Metric
Default Value: Open Height
REVERSAL: This value is entered on a per step
basis. The value represents the bottom reversal
position of the ram referenced to the bed of the
machine. This value may also be entered by first
positioning the ram to the desired bottom rever-
sal position in SETUP mode and using the TRN
key to transfer the actual ram position value into
this field.
If Angle Mode is ON, the value will be blanked
(after Desired Angle has been entered) unless the
user enters a reversal value.
Valid Range: Closed Height - Open Height
Entry Format: XX.XXX English or XXX.XX Metric
Default Value: Open Height
The following screen shows an example of entering
a Reversal Position and the Desired Angle and
Actual Angle fields being blanked.
RAM TILT: This field is used to program the
ram tilt in either direction. The ram will auto-
matically maintain this preset tilt throughout
the stroke. Ram tilt is the distance that the one
end of the ram is above or below the other end.
If the ram tilt is positive then the left end of the
ram is above the right end. If the ram tilt is neg-
ative then the left end of the ram is below the
right end.
The ram is always tilted about the centerline of
the machine. One half of the tilt is applied to the
right end of the ram and one half tilt is applied
to the left end of the ram. Note that special
machine logic is applied when the ram is near its
minimum and maximum travel limits to avoid
bottoming out the cylinders when trying to
achieve the programmed tilt. The minimum
reversal and maximum top stop positions are
dependent upon the tilt setting.
Valid Range: -1.000” – +1.000”
Entry Format: X.XXX English or XX.XX Metric
Default Value: 0.000
TONNAGE: This value is entered on a per step
basis. This field is the maximum tonnage
allowed for the stroke. It can be used as a safety
tonnage to reverse on. This value represents the
maximum tonnage which will be allowed before
reversing the ram. TONNAGE REVERSAL mode
implies the use of bottoming or coining instead
of air bending. Properly sized tooling must be
used to handle the maximum tonnage specified.
The REVERSAL position must be set low enough
to allow the ram to bottom in the dies.
Valid Range: 5% of maximum - Maximum
Capacity
Entry Format: XXXX English or Metric
Default Value: 5% of maximum (i.e.: 20 on 400
FM)
